Dr. Rama Sofat is a highly accomplished and respected specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with over 30 years of experience. She retired as Professor and Head of the OB/GYNAE Department and Director of the Family Planning Department at DMC, where she made significant contributions to women’s healthcare in India.

A pioneer in her field, Dr. Sofat introduced colposcopy in Punjab in 1985, laparoscopic surgery in 1990, and hysteroscopy in 1995. She has conducted numerous workshops across Punjab and surrounding areas, training professionals in advanced gynaecological procedures.

Achievements:

• Designated “Woman of the Year” in 2000 by the American Biological Institute, USA.
• Honorary member of the Professional Women’s Advisory Board (USA) for five years starting 2000.
• Awarded the Millennium Fellowship by the Indian College of OB/GYNAE in 2000.
• Over 50 national and international publications.
• Delivered 60+ presentations and guest lectures at various national and international conferences.
• Served as Vice President of North India OB/GYNAE Society (F.O.G.S.I.) for seven consecutive terms (1988–2000).
• Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from F.O.G.S.I. in 2022.
• Life member of F.O.G.S.I., ISOPARB, and the Oncology Society of India.
